The Rancho Santa Fe Big Band
The Rancho Santa Fe (RSF) Big Band is a 17-piece swing orchestra of the highest quality that is dedicated to the presentation and preservation of the best big band swing music in America for more than 70 years. Professor Jack Wheaton, former president of the San Diego County Musicians Association of America, has directed the RSF Big Band for several years. Musicians Dr. Dominick and Marie Addario, of Rancho Santa Fe produce this non-profit organization which has contributed all net proceeds to various San Diego County charities, including the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Family Food Drive, KSDS Radio, RSF Garden Club, RSF Community Center and the greater Rancho Santa Fe community's Fourth of July concert on the green. In 2003, the band performed for over 10,000 people for La Jolla's grand Fourth of July celebration at the La Jolla Cove.
This sensational swing orchestra brings together the very best players in San Diego County who perform the music of the greatest in big swing bands. The line-up includes all-time favorites Pete Deluke, Bob Mathes, Robbie Smith, and Randy Aviles. The band's noteworthy musicians have played with Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Jimmy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Harry James, Glenn Miller and Les Elgart. Members have also played behind well-known recording artists such as Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Sammy Davis Jr., Peggy Lee, Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Lou Rawls, and Natalie Cole.
